I got a message recently from a podcast listener (shameless plug: go subscribe to Mind Over Macros on any podcast platform).
Anyway, the message was about a current diet she was trying and wanted my feedback.
I’ll spare you the details but it was pretty freakin’ strict.
Lots of things she “wasn’t allowed” to eat. Lots of things she “wasn’t allowed” to do.
Shockingly, no, it wasn’t Optavia. 😉
Here’s how dieting and dating are alike …
Rather than putting my lecture pants on about the dangers of doing something that you aren’t willing to do forever, I decided to ask her a question.
I said, if I told you I had a program to find your perfect partner, kind of like a dating service, would you be interested?
Sure, I’ll play along, she said.
Ok, so here’s what you need to do …
Only date blondes. Don’t date anyone with facial hair. Don’t date anyone who says fuck. Don’t date anyone with tattoos.
So … what do you think of my program?
She replied, that would be ridiculous. Plus, it would eliminate my husband who has a bunch of tattoos.
Ahhhh, interesting.
So, it’s almost like your personal preferences are important and random rules that restrict you from finding what you truly enjoy are harmful.
She said, ok, point taken. I guess I thought I would avoid carbs and sugar for a while to make some progress and then add them back.
To which I replied, only if you’re interested in marrying misery.
Because any progress you make will be tied to restriction and following a plan that isn’t sustainable.
So, your results will be short lived.
That would be the equivalent of saying … I’m just gonna date this man that I have nothing in common with for a while before adding my husband back in lol.
I think that sealed the deal in her understanding.
Then she asked a much better question …
How do I know what will work best for me?
If you’ve been following me for any length of time, you can probably guess my answer.
It depends.
How to find out what program will work for you
What is your goal? What is your starting point? What have you tried in the past?
When you plug a destination into a GPS, you have to know the starting point, otherwise the directions are useless.
Obviously, we also have to know our destination.
Then, we can pull from past history to determine what will be sustainable for you.
You probably have a whole body of evidence of what doesn’t work, which is valuable information.
This process is exactly what we go through with our 1:1 clients in our signature 6-month coaching program.
Then, we find out their Neurotype and also have them take a metabolic assessment.
Your personality gives us insight into what plan will be the easiest to adhere to AND the most enjoyable.
Kind of like how personality plays a huge role in who you are attracted to when dating.
Your metabolic state gives us a decent estimation of how long it’ll take to reach your goals.
Then, we go through a metabolic priming phase, which simply means we make sure your body will respond to what we’re trying to accomplish.
If your body doesn’t feel “safe,” it won’t change the way you want it to.
Lastly, we gradually implement slight behavior modifications in the most sustainable way possible to ensure that everything is integrated into your lifestyle so you can keep your results forever.
Going beyond dieting and creating sustainable change
There’s a beautiful sense of freedom and relief when you know you never have to diet again.
In fact, I wouldn’t call what we do dieting at all.
It’s behavior modification to create sustainable change.
Nutrition and training are simply the vehicles we use.
The result: Our clients, on average, lose between 20-30 lbs. while dramatically improving their relationship with food and feeling the freedom of finding their forever plan.
If that sounds like something you’re interested in, the next step is simple.
Just shoot me a private message on FB.
We’ll have a quick chat to see if you’re a good fit for the program.
If so, we can move forward right away.
