This week feels like a total blur.
Something happened that I think is important to share.
Monday night I recorded an episode with Jason Phillips on the #AlliN podcast (that actually just dropped Wednesday).
I’m also recording an episode on a podcast that just hit 1 million downloads.
I should be excited, right? Well, I am … but I’m also struggling with imposter syndrome.
I’ve dealt with imposter syndrome a lot throughout my entire journey. It’s the whole “who I am to make a difference” mentality.
I understand it from a psychological level. The brain wants comfort and predictability. So, stepping into a new role or getting uncomfortable triggers a response to retreat.
I’m acknowledging it but not acting on it.
Here’s why this information is so important.
It’s the same concept for any fitness transformation.
You may think you’re uncomfortable with how you look and how you feel. And, you may very well be.
However, when you start making progress, and people start to notice, and you start to feel this pressure to uphold a certain arbitrary standard based on external sources … well … that can be pretty freakin’ uncomfortable.
And, your brain may tell you to retreat.
Enter: self sabotage.
Going back to what was comfortable.
It’s time to create a new normal
Letting go of a previous normal is not easy. As if we needed a reminder, this pandemic sure as hell made sure we don’t forget that.
I had to let go of a previous normal as somebody who doesn’t put themselves out there.
As you deal with the current situation and as you consider your own journey … there are previous “normals” that you will have to let go of.
It’s not going to be easy. And, you may even feel some form of grief as you enter into a zone of uncertainty and discomfort.
But, know that the growth will be worth it. The evolution will be worth it. The lessons will be worth it.
So, I’m going to step into discomfort and deliver as much value as I possibly can on this podcast today.
Take inventory of what previous normal is no longer serving you and actively seek to let it go. (Cue Frozen music. I think being around kids is starting to have an effect on me.)
If you want to further explore that mindset … you should probably download my book. It’s still FREE on kindle right now. Plus I added some additional gifts for you!
