What Do Your Kids Think About Your Dieting Habits?

by | Jan 14, 2022

“I just want to be able to eat dinner with my family and feel normal.”

A few months ago, I had a call with a woman who reached out for some help.

We had a lovely conversation about her goals and why nothing she had tried in the past had worked for her.

Initially, when we discussed what she was trying to accomplish, she told me a lot of the things I hear on a daily basis …

I just want to tone up, drop some of this fluff around my midsection, and fit in my clothes better.

She didn’t have a ton of fat to lose but wanted to get leaner and feel more comfortable in her own skin.

Nothing wrong with that.

Do your kids notice your dieting habits?

As we were discussing the previous diet that she was on, it started to get emotional.

I could hear her voice cracking a little bit.

It was a standard, restrictive meal plan that she was on.

This is par for the course when people reach out to me so I’m never surprised by the protocols.

It’s all the same version of damaging rules and unsustainable restriction.

But, I knew this impacted her deeply so I asked her what was going on.

She took a breath and then proceeded to tell me …

That every single night on this diet she was required to drink her dinner.

No food. Had to be a shake.

Protein only.

She could add greens to the shake but no carbs.

That was her dinner every single night for months.

Again, shit like that doesn’t even phase me anymore.

I used to have restrictive eating habits, too.

I’m so numb to the absurdities that are out there and, quite frankly, I’ve done it all before, too.

In fact, I once did a diet that was 4 shakes and 1 meal per day.

Anyway, she kept going …

Every single night I would sit down at the dinner table with my husband and two kids …

And my 8 year old son would say … why can’t mommy eat with us?

The phone went silent.

I got emotional too.

It immediately brought me back to all of the relationships I tarnished during my chronic dieting days.

I thought about my friends. Family members. My divorce.

I can only imagine what it feels like when you see the impact you’re having on your children.

I said, I can’t even begin to pretend like I know what that must have felt like.

But, you’re on this call right now so I have no doubt that your son also sees how much courage you have.

We talked for a while longer and when it was all said and done she said …

“I just want to be able to eat dinner with my family and feel normal.”

I said, that’s a beautiful goal.

One that we’re going to accomplish very quickly.

And we did.

It’s been about 4 months and she’s able to cook meals for the whole family to enjoy and has started taking them out for ice cream on occasion too.

Not only that, her clothes are starting to get too big on her.

It’s amazing how your body changes when you start giving it what it needs.

Many people may resonate deeply with her story (which is only just getting started!).

Ditching the old dieting habits and being able to set a good example for your kids may be a strong “why” for you.

To me, the power in her story is the fact that she didn’t let her past experiences stop her from trying.

She had been burned pretty badly.

It definitely left a mark.

And yet, she picked herself up, scheduled a call, and invested in herself.

Do you think she feels it was worth it?

To no longer feel like the outcast at her own dinner table.

To no longer feel like she’s ruining her kids’ relationship with food.

To find her own food freedom and finally achieve the results she’s been wanting for so long.

I’ll let you decide.

Is it worth it to you to invest in yourself?

For me, it’s the understanding that she was hurt, scared, and nervous to jump into something else.

But, she knew it was the only option.

Because following old dieting habits and doing it on her own was not working.

It’s not that she had less fear than you. It’s simply that she had more courage.

Of course, it helps that we offer a risk-free guarantee, but that’s besides the point. 😉

Many people have the exact same opportunity that she had to completely change their lives …

And don’t take it.

They choose certain misery over uncertainty.

Then, they continue to struggle and wonder why they can’t get results that other people have.

This is your answer.

If you aren’t willing to do the scary thing and make that commitment …

You’ll remain stuck.

From dieting habits to healthy eating habits that lead to sustainable results …

Normally, this is the part where I tell you exactly how our program works.

I do that because I want you to understand why it’s so effective.

But ,I’m going to leave that out today.

Instead, I’ll leave you with this thought …

If you are struggling with your relationship with food …

If you are struggling to achieve the physical results you desire …

If you are constantly riding the all or nothing diet roller coaster …

If you are setting a poor example for your kids because of your diet or food obsession …

And you are not investing in yourself to get the support you need …

Then you are actively choosing all of those problems.

You are giving your problems oxygen and life.

You can decide at any point in time to make a change.

It just requires a little bit of courage.

But you can do difficult things.
