When left to my own devices … I will gravitate towards under eating.
It’s true.
Even to this day, the ghosts of diets past still haunt me.
I was always under eating to try to reach my goals.
I remember when I started my business almost 3 years ago and felt this immense pressure to “look the part.”
I was about to be the face of a company …
I have to at least “look” like I have my shit together.
But I didn’t.
It’s always funny to me that coaches are often glorified and put on a pedestal for how they look.
The reality is …
We’re often the most fucked up out of anybody lol.
Anyway, I really wanted to look my best and I knew that I needed more muscle for so many reasons.
I would commit to eating more, building muscle, and dream about being this jacked version of myself.
A couple of days would go by and I’d be super consistent.
Hitting my macros, training hard, and prioritizing sleep/recovery.
Then, after a couple of days … I’d step on the scale.
Up two pounds … fuck!
Time to dial it back!
It was a vicious cycle of chronic dieting.
Then, I’d slash my calories, get my weight down, and start the process all over again.
I really set an amazing example for my clients lol.
I repeated this cycle for months.
Ok, it’s time to really do it this time.
Scale is up.
Maybe it’s not the right time after all.
Round and round I went.
Finally, after letting my stubbornness get the best of me for way too long …
I hired a coach.
It was such a scary decision at that point because I no longer would be able to give in to my excuses.
I had worked with plenty of coaches before and understood the value.
But, doing it alone allowed me to believe my own bullshit.
Which allowed me to stay firmly tucked away in my comfort zone.
Hiring a coach at this point in my journey meant a lot of discomfort.
It meant facing demons that had been controlling me for way too long.
It meant delaying gratification.
There really wasn’t a decision to be made.
I wasn’t ok with the current mess I was in.
So, a change was required.
I spent the next full YEAR in a bulk.
I told my coach I was committed and I didn’t care how long it took.
I was all in on the process and knew I had to ignore the timeline.
The time would pass regardless.
I could either continue to waste more of it …
Or finally capitalize on it.
I spent that year wearing a lot of clothes lol.
Honestly, it was worse in my head than it was in reality.
But, it was also the best year of my life in terms of what it did for my physique, my metabolism, and the long term sustainability of my goals.
For a dude who spent the better part of a decade on a roller coaster of chronic dieting …
Who jacked up his thyroid from severe restriction …
Who was afraid to eat more than 2,000 calories …
To then build significant muscle, eat over 3,000 calories per day, and end up leaner as a result …
Yeah … I’d say it was worth it.
Hiring a nutrition coach could be the best thing for you, too!
I share this because you may be haunted by the same demons.
And, while you certainly don’t have to have aspirations of building muscle …
You may be in the constant trap of always trying to eat less.
You may be damaging your metabolism or your mental well-being due to the restrictive protocols you’re following.
You may KNOW you need to fuel adequately but keep avoiding it every time the scale goes up a pound.
And, the change you know you need is scary AF because it’s uncomfortable and your excuses are easy to give in to.
If that’s you … there is no decision.
You either want to stay in the current mess you’re in …
Or you don’t.
If you’re not ok with the same results you’ve always gotten …
It’s time to do something different.
