How Many Carbs Should You Eat?

by | Aug 2, 2021

The carb requirement you never knew you had.

If you’re reading this, there’s a high probability that you’ve been told to eliminate carbs at some point in your life.

Possibly even very recently.

If you’re anything like I was, and feeling desperate for answers … you probably listened.

You maybe even lost some weight.

You likely didn’t maintain that weight loss but possibly told yourself that if you could just stop eating carbs … you’d be exactly where you want to be right now.

Spoiler alert: it wasn’t/isn’t the carbs.

And the reason you couldn’t maintain those results isn’t because you lack discipline and willpower …

It’s because eliminating carbs is a fuckin miserable existence and wildly unnecessary.

Eliminating carbs isn’t necessary.

Don’t get me wrong, there are certain individuals who can maintain a no carb lifestyle because they actually prefer it (not to be confused with the people who SAY they prefer it but are actually dead inside).

They are the exception.

For MOST people …

-Carbs make fat loss easier and more sustainable.
-Carbs make muscle building more efficient.
-Carbs improve thyroid function and hormone health.
-Carbs fuel your brain.
-Carbs improve your mood.
-Carbs help with sleep.
-Carbs combat stress.
-Carbs help you recover.

I could go on but I think you get the point.

Most people think they need to be super active and fit to “earn” their carbs.

Also not true.

Yes, your carb requirements go up the more active you are.

And, high intensity activities will favor carb metabolism over fat metabolism.

But, you already “earned” your carbs by being a human.

So, how many carbs should you eat?

How many carbs you need will certainly depend on your lifestyle, activity level, training, personal preference, and the type of work you do.

However, there’s one variable that significantly influences your carb requirements that you may not have considered …

Your personality.

One of the major benefits of carbs is that they are the shut off valve to cortisol.

One of the other major benefits of carbs is they increase serotonin.

That means shutting off the stress hormone and increasing the contentment neurotransmitter.

Sounds pretty important to me.

Now maybe you understand why low carb peeps are so damn cranky lol.

What does your personality have to do with how many carbs you eat?

Well, some individuals are naturally higher cortisol producers.

Some individuals have naturally lower levels of serotonin.

Rather than getting pricked and prodded to see a snap shot in time with your bloodwork …

We can simply assess your personality.

Individuals with higher anxiety have lower levels of serotonin and will produce more cortisol.

If you’re…
– A planner
– Very organized
– OCD
– Love repetitive activities
– Think pragmatically
– Prefer routine over change
– Like to be alone vs. being out with a group of strangers

Then you are likely a type 3 with low serotonin.

Your carb requirements will be much higher than someone who is more extroverted, a risk taker, impatient, multi-tasker, explosive personality.

Once we understand your nature …

We have the ability to work WITH it.

There’s a strong correlation between capacity for stress, actual stressors, and macronutrient needs.

Enjoy food freedom with our nutrition coaching program.

This is the advantage that we offer our clients in our signature 6-month, 1:1 coaching program.

We begin by understanding their Neurotype, which allows us to create a plan that works with their nature vs. fighting against it.

It offers us insight into how to structure the plan, what foods to recommend, and what macro ratios will help them feel and look their best.

Then, we prime their metabolisms, which is another key ingredient in the stress balance equation that ensures their results are sustainable.

Lastly, we integrate everything into their lifestyle so they can enjoy themselves and the people they care about most while reaching their goals and improving their relationship with food.

This process, on average, leads to 20-30 lbs. of fat loss in 6 months while unlocking the freedom to never have to diet again or spend another dime on any other programs.

If you’re tired of feeling like nothing ever works for you …

Understand that your personality will change that.

Of course, you’re more than welcome to keep doing what you’re doing and try to figure it all out on your own.

Or, you can expedite the process and save yourself some time, money, and energy by enrolling in our coaching program.

If that sounds more appealing … then shoot me a message on FB.

I’ll ask you some qualifying questions and if we both determine it’s a good fit, we can get started right away.
