That’s the most searched phrase in Google every year with regards to fitness and nutrition.
And, that one simple fact illustrates the exact reason why we see so many people struggling to achieve their body composition goals.
By the way, I did a live training on this exact topic in our FB group. If you’re not already in that group, you can join by tapping here.
Anyway, if you were to search that phrase, you’d probably be bombarded with a whole bunch of advice about …
-Eating 1200 calories
-Doing more cardio
-Eliminating carbs, sugar, fruit, dairy, gluten, fun
-Restricting your feeding window to 4-6 hours
-And a whole bunch of other nonsense
Doing those things will certainly help you lose weight fast …
But they will also create fast weight gain.
Trying to lose weight fast comes at a cost.
As a general rule, the more extreme you get, the more you restrict, the more you try to rush the process …
The more you’ll struggle long term.
It comes down to the psychological and physiological toll that crash dieting takes on your mind and body.
In the short term, you may be losing weight quickly.
In the long term, you’ll be delaying your ultimate goal (which I assume is to lose the weight and actually keep it off).
I guess I shouldn’t assume. So, if you enjoy losing weight and gaining it all back, then I highly recommend searching “how to lose weight fast” in Google and have a field day with the advice you’ll get.
Instead, focus on losing weight sustainably.
If you truly want to condense the timeframe of reaching your ultimate goal …
And your ultimate goal is to improve your body composition and sustain it …
Then, rule number 1 is to stop trying to lose weight fast and start focusing on losing weight sustainably.
In fact, you’ll probably need to spend way more time in maintenance and way less time actively dieting.
Consider that “fast” is all relative.
You’ve likely spent years trying to chronically diet yourself to a result.
And you’re probably not at that result yet.
So, the lose weight fast approach has taken years so far and still hasn’t gotten you there.
Interesting. So maybe taking 6 months or even 12 months of doing things more sustainably with more freedom and flexibility actually IS the fast approach when compared to what you’ve been doing.
Funny how that works.
The keys to sustainable weight loss
Now, there are some specific tactics that can help you move things along, once you’ve committed to a path of sustainability.
I outlined some of those in the live training I did in our FB group, so here’s another opportunity to join and listen.
But ultimately, what matters the most is that you commit to supporting your body by eating enough and not living in an active dieting phase for years on end.
We call this Metabolic Priming.
