I legitimately thought all of my muscles were going to disappear.
It’s been exactly 15 days since my last workout and I still struggle with the lingering affects of body dysmorphia and irrational thoughts around food and exercise from my years of chronic dieting.
So, after I had a procedure to remove some skin cancer from my shoulder … and was told no heavy lifting or intense activity for a while …
My initial thought was … ok, well there goes all of my hard work. Bye bye muscles.
Turns out … my muscles are still here. Phew.
But the mindset struggle is real.
And, it brought back the urge to restrict and lower calories and increase my steps to 50,000 (slight exaggeration).
The answer is NOT in the next diet
What I would have done several years ago in this same situation is search for the “answer.”
Keto? Paleo? Fasting? Whole30?
Maybe there’s some revolutionary diet out there that I don’t even know about.
It sounds funny but the last time I looked for such a thing it had me eating 4 shakes per day and 1 meal under 600 calories.
No fun.
And certainly didn’t last.
You see, this right here is at the core of why sustaining your results is so challenging.
Temporary results are easy.
You can jump on any bullshit program for a short period of time and rip the band-aid off.
Permanent results are difficult.
Because permanent results aren’t found in the next diet.
You can’t keto your way to a lifetime of success.
And that’s a difficult concept for most to grasp.
There’s this endless pursuit for “the diet.”
Which doesn’t exist.
And round and round we go until HOPEFULLY we get some sense smacked into us and realize that we’ve been going about it all wrong from day 1.
The reality is … it’s not our fault.
It’s not your fault.
It’s not my fault.
We’ve been led to believe that there’s a way of approaching nutrition that works for the masses.
Which logically makes absolutely no sense but we want to believe it so we pursue it.
And when we fail, we’re made to feel broken.
That’s how I used to label myself.
I’m broken. I’m inconsistent. I’m just different. Nothing works for me.
You know what changed it all?
When I stopped looking for “the diet” and was given permission to just be myself.
The first time that my coach (props to Coach Thibs) told me that my personality is one that not only craves variety, but NEEDS variety and thrives with variety … it flipped my whole world upside down.
It made so much fuckin sense.
Work WITH your nature, not against it
I had been fighting against my nature for YEARS.
Instead of working with it.
Once I truly grasped that concept … I never looked back.
I never felt the need to ask the question of … should I do keto, should I fast, should I go paleo, should I track macros, should I do carb cycling?
Those questions all of a sudden became inconsequential.
I knew the way my brain was wired, which allowed me to create a plan that catered to everything that makes me, ME.
I was consistent. I was motivated. I was loving the process.
I didn’t care about one bad decision or a week vacation or going out with friends for drinks.
I had my forever solution.
I had spent essentially my entire dieting life trying to fix an internal problem with an external plan (aka someone else’s diet).
Once I understood my nature … I saw more progress in 3 months than I had in the previous 3 years combined.
And, now that’s what we get to do for individuals just like you.
Who may feel broken. Who may feel like nothing ever works. Who may feel flawed.
Guess what … you are flawed. That’s part of being human.
Ready for a ‘forever solution’ instead of another diet?
Once you embrace your personality and all of things that make you unique, you’ll stop jumping from program to program, searching for “the way.”
You’ll know how to work with your body and with your mind to never feel like you’re “on a plan” again.
It’ll just become what you do.
Of course, it takes time and effort. But, think about all the mental stress you’ve encountered up until this point.
Is it worth it to do things the right way so you never have to stress about food again?
I’d say so.
Look, I’m not going to say you’ll never have those old thoughts of deprivation and restriction.
I’m not going to say you’ll never think irrationally about food and/or your body.
I literally just experienced it after years of feeling like I’ve got things figured out.
I’m not so sure that little voice in the back of your mind ever goes away completely.
But, you’ll be much better equipped not to act on that voice. And to know what to do instead.
Which is exactly what I’ve been able to do in my current situation.
Ditch the diet and enjoy food freedom at last
Another important part of our process with our clients is to break them out of that chronic under eating mode.
We call it Metabolic Priming.
It’s the process of fueling your metabolism appropriately so you can lower stress and recover more effectively. This sends the signal to your body that it’s “safe” to let go of body fat.
Between our Neurotyping principles and Metabolic Priming, our clients feel a million times better, have their forever solution, and achieve the body composition results that they felt were impossible.
To tie it all together, we make sure the plan is structured specifically for their lifestyle so they can still have fun throughout the process and enjoy things like alcohol, date nights, vacations, etc.
We implement these phases in our 6 month, signature coaching program which dramatically improves their relationship with food and gives them the confidence of permanent results.
If that sounds like something you’d like for yourself, shoot me a private message on FB.
We’ll have a quick chat to see if you’re a good fit for our program.
The way that looks is that I’ll send you questions to see if it’s a fit. If you can’t take the time to answer those questions … then I can already tell you it’s not a good fit.
Communication is key.
If we do decide it’s a fit, then I’ll offer you an invite into the program and we can get started right away.
