Is Building Sustainable Habits Sexy?

The sexy truth about creating sustainable habits and hitting your goals

I had a coach reach out to me yesterday with a great question …

She asked how to make habits sexy.

I said, what do you mean?

She said … like … I teach clients how to build sustainable habits.

But no one really cares about that.

It’s not sexy.

They’d much rather hear about how to lose 30 lbs. in 6 weeks.

Ok, fair enough.

Is it true, though?

Which sounds sexier to you …

How to lose 30 lbs. in 6 weeks or …

How to lose 30 lbs. and keep them off forever?

Let’s take it one step further …

What does it look like to lose 30 lbs. in 6 weeks?

Pretty boring, actually …

Eat as little as you can tolerate. Do as much activity as you can tolerate. Stave off hunger and cravings. Cope with fatigue and no energy. Sacrifice sleep quality and mood.

Sounds like a hoot.

What does it look like to lose 30 lbs. and keep it off forever?

Focus on behavior change. Understand your internal motivation as to why this matters. Work on getting your brain and body on the same page. Cultivate an environment that is conducive to your success. Establish a lifestyle that allows you to still love your life while pursuing your goals.

Now, that’s sexy.

It has legs. It’s built on a solid foundation.

30 lbs. in 6 weeks is a one night stand.

It can be fun to try it out but don’t you want something deeper and more meaningful?

What if you had a foundation of solid communication, true partnership, desire and passion, romance, and mutual love and respect.

That’s the forever plan.

I don’t know about you but that shit sounds way sexier to me.

It’s funny how coaches often say the basics are boring. I say that too sometimes.

And I understand why we say it.

Things like drinking water, eating protein and veggies, walking, managing stress, and sleeping don’t exactly give you a dopamine rush.

However, what those things allow you to do is far from boring.

Having confidence in your own skin is far from boring.

Being able to enjoy your social life while not stressing about food is far from boring.

Feeling strong AF is far from boring.

Knowing that you have total control of your own health and well-being is far from boring.

It’s all about how you frame it.

Is it exciting to lose 30 lbs. in 6 weeks?

I guess so.

Is it exciting to crash and burn and gain it all back?

Probably not.
